Greenhouse farming often makes use of steam. Apart from some exceptions, low-pressure steam systems are used in view of the regulations. This is up to a steam pressure of 0.5 Bar (110ºC). The advantage of these systems is that they do not fall under the PED (previously the quality mark of the Boiler Inspection Department) and therefore need not to be maintained and inspected in conformity with these regulations. The disadvantage is the low pressure and low temperature, which make the temperature drop too low when transporting steam over a greater length.

The Thermeta steam heater improves the steam quality and can be applied with long-distance transport of steam. The steam heater heats steam coming from a low-pressure boiler to a temperature that usually only a high-pressure steam boiler can achieve. In practice the steam temperature is raised from about 110ºC to about 150ºC, dependent on the distance to be bridged. Steam is completely dry at this temperature. As no water from the steam condensates on the walls of the transport pipes, loss of energy through the transport pipes is reduced and larger distances can be covered without the steam losing its ‘power’. In this way, the total steam time can be reduced to sometimes even 20%. This saves a lot of costs and time. The steam heaters are dismountable and accessible for inspection and cleaning.
